Have you ever experienced that your daily scenery suddenly became a little more colorful and cheerful to your eyes? Somehow you are capturing more colors and lights than usual, while walking your dog in the same old neighborhood or driving down on the same dull commuting route. You find yourself indescribably feeling positive and uplifted, and a series of questions circle around in your mind: “Am I in love?” “Did I just come back from a much-needed long vacation??”
Either way, it is a welcoming feeling to me as it adds some vibe to my day, and I have been tricked by this mind-boosting experience in Kaka‘ako for quite some time. Well, it was not a new love nor vacation, but it was Pow! Wow! Hawai'i’s murals! The artists, both local and international, have been physically painting Kaka‘ako’s scenery with their edgy graffiti, adding confetti of colors to our lives.
